Keeping Our Promise

Back in February after a team of youth invested the new SLT at the Adult Leaders Conference, I talked about how important the concept of Youth Leading, Adult Supporting was to our team.

As a youth organisation, we need youth voices present in every aspect of what we do. Today I’m excited to announce three important new roles.

A Deputy Chief Commissioner Youth will join the SLT working alongside Daniella and myself, and two Youth Commissioners will join the Program and Adventure teams. We will seek applicants aged 18 - 27 for a three-year term.

This is a significant opportunity for young people to contribute to Scouting at a senior level. Our Youth Commissioners will work to improve and encourage youth involvement in training, in teams at District, Region and State Council levels, and in the running of youth forums and workshops.

It’s not just a great opportunity for the right people. It will also have a huge, positive impact on our program. This is just the start of the new youth leadership roles we’ll introduce at all levels. I encourage you to consider this opportunity and help me to drive youth leadership in Victoria.

You can view the position descriptions for the three roles here. Please forward your expression of interest to leaderroles@scoutsvictoria.com.au by December 4.

Your expression of interest should indicate which role you are applying for and answer these three questions:

  1. Why are you applying for the role?
  2. What qualities and skills do you bring to the role?
  3. What is one thing you would like to change in Scouts Victoria?

Yours in Scouting,

Rod Byrnes
Chief Commissioner
Scouts Victoria
