Water skiing

Feel the rush as the ski boat takes off. You move upright and stay afloat, gaining speed in a breathtaking glide over the surface of the water.

You can barely see the smiling face of the observer because you’re focussing on your strength and balance, but you’re hoping that rooster tail behind you looks as fantastic as you feel.

State Water Ski Team

The State Water Ski Team offers safe, but action-packed, water skiing opportunities in fresh water for Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and Leaders. It’s challenging and heaps of fun.

Our activities are always supervised by qualified instructors and we can cater to all levels from first-timers through to experienced water skiers. We can also have the ability to modify the activity to suit people with most disabilities, giving an opportunity for them to participate with the rest of their group.

We’ll happily run activities for a full weekend or just single day events. We can provide up to four ski-craft for larger parties.

When and where

While there’s no specific season for water skiing, the team is usually at its busiest in February and March. We mostly operate at Lake Nillahcootie (near Mansfield), but other venues can be arranged.

For safety reasons, the selection of venues is at the discretion of the Water Ski Team.

Qualifications and training

The State Water Ski Team now offers two levels of water ski qualifications with courses, as required, in:

  • Level 1 Observer – Instructor
  • Level 2 Boat Driver – Beach Captain

With these qualifications, and a power boat course through the Sailing and Power Boat Team, Leaders can bring this exciting activity to youth members.
