National Alpine School 2026
This intensive alpine training event will provide Rover Scouts and Leaders with an opportunity to learn, develop, and demonstrate their skills in leading day cross country ski tours and snowshoe trips. The school is designed to focus on the practical skills that Snowcraft Leaders require to take youth members into alpine environments, such as:
- Managing parties in challenging environments
- Dealing with alpine emergencies
- Navigating in poor visibility
- Avalanche safety
- Snow camping techniques
The week will provide training and evidence collection for the alpine activity specific VET units. On completion of the week, participants will have evidence for assessment by SAIT for the following VET units:
- SISOFLD003 - Select Set-up & Operate a temporary or overnight Campsite
- SISOFLD006 - Navigate in tracked environments
- SISOSKT001 - Ski on easy cross country terrain
- SISOSKT003 - Use snow craft skills for alpine touring
- SISOSKT004 - Lead skiing activities on easy cross country terrain
In the months prior to National Alpine School, online sessions will guide participants in the collection of evidence for the 12 core Guide VET units.
Dates: 7-15th August 2026
Location: Bogong Rover Chalet, 11km from Falls Creek
Cost: $800 including accommodation and food, excluding ski hire.
Prerequisites: For the skiing stream: two weeks experience on skis. For the snowshoe stream: bushwalking experience including several overnight hikes.
