National Alpine School 2023
This intensive alpine training event will provide Rover Scouts and Leaders with an opportunity to learn, develop, and demonstrate their skills in leading day tours and snowshoeing trips. The School is designed to focus on the practical skills that Snowcraft Leaders require to take youth members into alpine environments, such as:
- Managing parties in challenging environments
- Dealing with alpine emergencies
- Navigating in poor visibility
- Avalanche safety
- Snow camping techniques
At the completion of the course you will be assessed in two subject disciplines:
- Use snowcraft skills for alpine touring -siso skt 003
- Lead skiing activities on easy cross-country terrain -siso skt 004
Dates: 5 August - 12 August
Location: Bogong Rover Chalet - Falls Creek
Cost: $600 (+ski hire)
Prerequisite - must have one from the list below
- Trained Participant - cross-country skiing day tour patrolled.
- Trained Participant - snow shoe day tour.
- Bushwalking - Activity Specialist Extremely Difficult Tracked & Untracked Environments.
- Attended 2 weeks at Bogong Rover Chalet.
- Other suitable experience with logbook evidence (If unsure please contact State Alpine Leader).
- Hold a guide appointment in one other Adventurous Activity within Scouts.
