As this is a new program introduction for Scouts Victoria, there will be a range of questions as the information rolls out to the Venturer and Rover communities.

Here are some typical questions which will be added as feedback is received.

  • Do I have to enrol in Duke of Ed Aus as a Venturer or Rover?
    • No, it is an option to gain a complimentary Award while working on your Peak Award.
  • What are the age ranges for the Silver Award and Gold Award?
    • The Silver Award can commence from 15 Years+ and the Gold Award from 16 Years+. The upper age limit is the 25th Birthday.
  • Why am I paying an additional cost to register in Duke of Ed Aus?
    • This is a separate organisation to Scouts Victoria and the fee you pay covers the administration of your Online Record Book your registration and certificate.
  • Does my Scouting Assessor have to register with Duke of Ed Aus?
    • Yes, and they will need to to ensure they meet the ChildSafe requirements of both organisations. As we progress with Scouting Assessors from the Activity Teams registering Venturers and Rovers they can be used by other youth members in the future.
  • Can I receive a Duke of Ed Aus badge to wear on my Scout uniform?
    • Yes, these are available to purchase from The Scout Shop online.
  • What rules do I have to follow for Duke of Ed Aus that are different to Venturer Scout Peak Award?
    • The Duke of Ed Aus Award encourages a participant to undertake at least one hour per week as your progress in your activity over a six month period. This time duration is an important part of building your level of participation and skills.
  • Do I have to complete all Sections in the chart for Duke of Ed Aus?
    • For the Silver Award you need to complete each of the Voluntary Service, Skill, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey. There are lots of options of choice in the SIA areas - Growth & Development / Environment / Creating a Better World / Art & Literature / Adventure and Sport / STEM and Innovation.
This gives you a vast number of ideas to choose as your goals.
  • Do I have to record my progress in ORB AND Scouts | Terrain?
    • Yes, however you can use the same information as you gain award levels in Achievement Pathways to enter into your ORB.
  • What's different in the Duke of Ed Aus Gold Award?
    • Basically the same award sections are to be undertaken with a longer duration (12 - 18 months), plus the Residential Project - 5 days/4 nights (Gold only). The aim on this project is for you to meet and mix with other people outside your home Unit. This can be an external Leadership Camp, Jamboree, Cuboree or the LEAD program as some examples. For the Gold Award if have not completed the Silver Award, you are required to complete an additional 6 months in either Voluntary Service, Skills or Physical Recreation areas. The Gold Award can be undertaken by either a Venturer or a Rover (as a part of their Baden-Powell Award).
