General Information

Who Can Attend Kangaree 2025?

To be eligible to attend Kangaree 2025 your Joey Scout is a current member of Scouts Victoria registered in the Joey Scout section as described here

The Joey Scout must be considered by their parents/guardians and Joey Scout Leader to be of both sufficient maturity and good behaviour to successfully participate in the Kangaree.

Preference is for Joey Scouts to have Stage 1 OAS Camping.

Others:

Other attendees must be registered Members of Scouts Victoria as a Venturer, Rover, Leader or Adult Supporter.

As part of membership in Scouts adults must meet our eligibility requirements, including: Working With Children Check (WWCC), Police Check through Scouts Victoria, and have completed the mandatory child safety modules.



What’s this year’s theme?

“Life in an Arcade” a Joey Scout Youth Council selected theme where campers live out a real-life arcade experience with themed activities, quests and challenges.

What are the dates and location for Kangaree 2025?

Kangaree 2025 will be held at Bay Park Scout Camp on the Mornington Peninsula on September 26-28, 2025

What activities are on at Kangaree?

Kangaree is packed with fun, energy and adventure from start to finish. There will be six themed activity bases, plus a special drop-in base that Joey Scouts can visit at any time throughout the day. Each base ties into our “Life in an Arcade” theme and is designed to spark imagination, build confidence and help Joeys work together in a safe and supportive environment. While we’re keeping the exact activities under wraps for now, expect plenty of colour, creativity and laughter across the entire weekend.

What’s the competition for Joeys?

Register for Kangaree and send in a short video saying what you're most excited about. One lucky Joey Scout will win a PlayStation. The winner will be announced at the closing ceremony.

Will there be anything Fortnite-themed?

Yes, there are plans for gaming-inspired activities. You’ll have to wait and see.

Registration and Payments

So... how do I get my PIN?

You will be asked to enter your Post Code, First Name, Surname and Date of Birth.  Once the information entered has been validated by the system, an email will be sent to the email address on file with a PIN and instructions on how to apply. If you're having trouble getting a PIN please email info@kangaree.com.au

Where/How do I upload a photo?

If you log back into your application, in the 'Applicant Details' tab there is an 'Applicant Details' heading. Directly under the heading there is a blue picture, directly under that is a link 'Upload Photo'.  Click on that link, and follow the prompts to upload a photo.

My email address is wrong/I haven't received my PIN, what do I do?

Email addresses can easily be changed by contacting either your Group Leader or Membership Support. Unfortunately, we cannot change the email address on file for you. Having the correct email address is important, as without a valid email address, you cannot apply for Kangaree.

I registered, but I haven't received an invoice, did I do everything correctly?

Your invoice won't generate until your Group Leader / LIC approves your application.  If you haven't received your invoice, please speak to your Group Leader!

What happens if I need to cancel my application?

If, after making an application, you are unable to attend the Kangaree, you must advise the Chief Director in writing as soon as possible (email: info@kangaree.com.au)

If you withdraw:

  • On or Before May 31, 2025 - You will receive a full refund on any money paid.
  • On or before  June 1 and July 31 - You will receive a full refund on any money paid, less $100.00
  • After August 1, 2025 - No refund at all except in the case of exceptional circumstances.

All requests must be submitted in writing and each case shall be considered by the Chief Director of Kangaree 2025.

When will Applications Close?

All applications will close on July 29, 2025.

What is the cost for Kangaree?

Kangaree costs $190 per Joey. 

Costs for Leaders, Adult Supporters, Venturers and Rovers is $100 per person.

This cost includes transport, food, accommodation, welfare, activities, night entertainment, some merchandise, administration and more 

I am a GL/LIC, how do I Accept applications?

Click here to log into the management system with your Extranet credentials. You accept applications the same way you have done for previous Kangarees, Cuborees and Jamborees. For more information, here is a pdf document with step by step instructions to help you through the process. (It's from a previous Cuboree, but the process is the same)

Where do I find a list of PINs for my eligible members?

Members are able to generate and reset their own PIN if required.

My Joey will be 8 years old before Kangaree starts, can they still come?

To be eligible to attend Kangaree 2025 your Joey Scout must be a member of the Joey Scout Section. See here for more information.

Transport and Arrival

How do I get to and from Kangaree?

All Joey Scouts and their Leaders will travel to Kangaree by bus. The cost for the bus is included in the application fee.

Will the pickup and drop-off location be the same?

Yes. The location where your child is dropped off will more than likely be the same place you pick them up from. You will get detailed info on this closer to the event.

 

Your bus stop may not be your home Scout Hall but will be close.

The system is demanding I list a home phone number, but I only have a mobile, what do I do?

If you only have a mobile phone, please put your mobile phone number in both the Home and Mobile Fields.

Can I drop my child off instead?

Yes, but you must pre-arrange this by emailing info@kangaree.com.au. Unnotified drop-offs may cause confusion and delay.

Can Joeys come just for the day?

Day participation is only considered for those with significant medical needs. Email the team to discuss.

Bump in, Bump out

Bump-in of Unit sites can occur on Saturday 20 - Sunday 21 September from 9am - 6pm. The site is classified as a worksite and only individuals aged 16 and over are permitted on site.

Bump-out must occur after all buses have left the site on Sunday September 28 (expected to be approx 3pm).

Do Joey Scout Leaders camp with the Joeys?

Yes. Joeys will camp with their Unit of about 35 kids and 7 or more Leaders.

Camping and Packing

Where will Joey Scouts Sleep?

Joey Scouts and their Leaders are camped together with each Unit on its own site. On the site, Joey Scouts sleep in tents with their fellow Unit Joey Scouts. Adults are camped in their own tent in the Unit site.

Will Leaders help set up stretchers?

In most cases, stretchers are set up before Joeys arrive. Leaders will help where needed.

What accommodation do parent volunteers have?

Volunteers also camp with either their unit or their activity team. Please bring an appropriately sized tent.

How do I prepare my Joey for their first camp?

  • Try sleepovers beforehand

  • Pack together so they know what they have

  • Talk about hygiene, respect, making friends and speaking up

  • Reinforce that it’s okay to feel nervous

What roles can an Adult Supporters have at Kangaree?

Adult Supporters may nominate their three role preferences when completing their applications. They may be allocated a role in the Unit lines or they may be helping with activities and other service areas.

Where do Adult Supporters sleep?

Adult Supporters who have a role in the Unit will stay with their Unit. Adult Supporters who have a role outside of the Unit lines will be camping on-site but separate to the Joey Scouts.

Anybody not staying with the Unit will need to provide their own tent.

Do Joeys need to bring money for merchandise?

Only if you would like them to purchase extras. Avoid sending cash. Merchandise is available online at the Scout Shop and at the event.

Do Joeys get a Kangaree woggle?

No. Woggles are not provided. Elastic bands or homemade woggles are recommended. Units often make these beforehand. Or you can tie Scarf in friendship knot.

What should we bring?

Our very own Scout Shop has packaged together some products for Kangaree.

Joey Scouts

Uniform

  • Full uniform to be worn to and from Kangaree (Group scarf to be left at home, Kangaree scarf will be supplied)
  • Plastic bag (named) large enough to put all uniform in for safekeeping

Personal Clothing

Please consider the latest weather forecast.

  • Jumper (warm)
  • Rain coat / water proof, warm jacket
  • T-Shirt or polo shirt
  • Warm shirt
  • Underclothing
  • Socks
  • Change of shoes/boots suitable for activities
  • Gumboots (if weather is going to be wet)
  • Camp Blanket (optional)

Toiletries

  • Towel & soap
  • Hair brush & comb
  • Tooth brush & paste

Sleeping Gear

  • Good quality sleeping bag (NO thin bags, it can be cold at night)
  • One pillow & one blanket
  • Pyjamas
  • Stretcher (preferred -- as the kit bag can go underneath it) or sleeping mat. Single size only please!

Other Items

  • Day pack - Small (for activities)
  • Water Bottle
  • Hat & Sun Screen
  • Small torch
  • Insect repellent (NON Aerosol)
  • Rubbish bags for dirty clothes

Medication

N.B. Asthma medication is to be with the Joey Scout in the Joey Scout's pack & NOT the Leaders' pack.

All other Medication & Instructions (including EpiPens) to be named and in a resealable plastic bag which will be carried by J.S.L. in their daypack.

NOTE:

  • Please ensure all gear is clearly named and packed into ONE BAG only.
  • NO electronic equipment, lollies, or NUT products to be brought to Camp.
  • Please send extra bedding if your child could wet the bed and also advise their Leaders.

Adults

Unit Leaders - Pack an extra bag with: 

  • Extra sleeping bag(s)
  • Plastic bags
  • 4-6 tea towels for drying cups
  • Texta for naming things
  • Rubber-bands for Scarves

Activity Leaders, Service Leaders & Youth Service Team - You are camping! 

  • Bring your own tent!

Food and Catering

How are meals organised?

  • Breakfast and dinner: Eaten with your Unit at your campsite

  • Lunch, morning and afternoon tea: Grab-and-go via our "Lunch Mart"

  • Two evening meals will involve simple BBQ-style cooking at the Joeys Campsite

What about dietary requirements?

All dietary needs will be catered for. Just make sure they are noted in your registration and Operoo profile.

Health and Wellbeing

Who do we contact for additional needs or support?

Email info@kangaree.com.au and it will be directed to the Health and Wellbeing Team.

What supports are available on-site?

  • First aiders on site

  • 24/7 Health and Wellbeing Team

  • Quiet spaces in each Subcamp

  • Central Health and Wellbeing Hub

  • Inclusion and accessibility adjustments for all kinds of needs

What happens if a Joey loses a tooth?

Tell a leader. The team will coordinate with the tooth fairy as needed.

Parent and Leader Involvement

Can I volunteer as a parent?

Yes, parents can come along to help support the running of the event. You’ll need to register as an Adult Supporter with a Working with Children Check, a Scouts Victoria organised Police check and complete Child Safe training. Your Group Leader can guide you. Volunteer assistance is important to help run the event assisting with supervision, cooking, helping with activities and other support. During the application process you can make preference selections for the role suitable for you.

Can parent volunteers go home at night?

No. Parent volunteers must stay onsite for the whole event.

Can Scouts attend Kangaree?

Unfortunately we are not able to have Scouts at this event

Can Joeys attend if their Leader isn’t going?

Absolutely. They can join another local Unit. Talk to your Group Leader.

Media and Merchandise

Will there be photos or videos during the event?

Yes. Photos and videos will be shared daily on the Scouts Victoria social channels so you can follow along from home.

Venturer Scouts

Can Venturer Scouts attend Kangaree?

Yes. We welcome Venturers as volunteers and activity assistants at Kangaree. It’s a fantastic way to support Joey Scouts while developing your leadership and teamwork skills.

What roles will Venturers have at Kangaree?

Venturers will help run activity bases, support Joey Scout Units, assist with logistics, and help create a fun and inclusive experience. Venturers will not be rostered 24/7, you’ll also have time to connect with other Venturers and enjoy the event.

Will Venturers camp separately from Leaders?

Yes. Venturer Scouts will have their own designated camping area, separate from Joey Scout Units and adult Leaders, with appropriate supervision.

Do Venturers need to register?

You’ll need to register through the same system as other attendees.

What is the cost for Venturers?

The fee for Service Venturers is the same as adults, $100. It includes meals, transport and event merchandise (scarf, badge).

Will this count towards service or award requirements?

Yes. Kangaree participation can contribute to your achievement pathways, especially as a Special Interest Area. Speak to your Unit Council or Venturer Leader.

Can I attend if I don’t know anyone else going?

Absolutely. Kangaree is a great place to meet other Venturers from across the state. You’ll be supported by our Venturer Coordinators and placed in a team to make sure you’re never on your own.

What do I need to bring?

You’ll need camping gear, your uniform, and clothes suited for active outdoor work. If you’re helping with activities, some fun or themed clothing might also be encouraged.
