Become a Pilot for 3 Days in 2024
Description
If you wonder what it is like to fly an aircraft, have fun, challenge yourself and make new like-minded friends, this opportunity is for you!
In co-operation with our aviation services partner, Moorabbin Flying Services (MFS), Scout Air Activities offers an introduction for Venturers, Rovers and Guides to give you a real taste for learning to fly! No prior experience necessary.
The program provides an opportunity for a maximum number of six participants over three days (usually Tuesday and Thursday) to experience what is like to train as a pilot as well as share the flight environment utilising MFS' Piper Warrior aircraft.
All flight and theory training is delivered by MFS instructors with each participant receiving a pre-flight briefing before their flight. Other activities include a visit to the Moorabbin Aviation Museum and on-field aviation businesses/organisations and facilities, an escorted airside walk, and subject to operational requirements the control tower.
This really is a fantastic opportunity to learn many of the hands-on skills required to pilot an aeroplane in a fun and relaxed environment. While there is some time spent flying in an aircraft or a full size simulator, the focus is that by the end of the course you will understand what it takes to become a pilot, the medical requirements, the structure of a typical training day, the knowledge and skills required to obtain a licence, and what are the various training pathways for either a career in aviation or as a recreational pilot including Vocational Education Delivered in Secondary Schools (VETDSS) options for Years 10 to 12.
While targeted at participants 15 years of age, participants over 13 years of age will be considered based on height and maturity.
