Venturers

Victorian Venturers will be attending AJ2025 as Venturer Scout Service Leaders

Venturer Scout Service Leaders will be camping with other Venturer Scouts, managed by Venturer Scout Leaders, and in all other respects will be treated as adult service leaders, dining in catered facilities and socialising with other Venturer Scouts and leaders. Other leader facilities will also be accessible to Venturer Scout Service Leaders, except of course the off-site leader club which is restricted to over 18 year olds due to it being a licenced premises. Like adult leaders, Venturer Scout Service Leaders will get to nominate their preferences for activities or service areas where they will be allocated.

As a Venturer Scout Service Leader, Venturer Scouts will have opportunities to progress OAS skills at their level, and will be allowed special after-hours time to use the adventurous activities facilities on site, and are welcome at all the entertainment and other Jamboree experiences on offer to Scouts in the evenings. They can even socialise with Scouts if they want.

How will Venturer Scout Service Leaders find about their role and other stuff about AJ2025?

  • Most of what we know already is listed here in the FAQs
  • Roles (what you will be working on at Jamboree) are only now being worked out by the Queensland Jamboree Organising team, where possible Venturer Scouts will be allocated their service role based on the role preferences in their application. Just like adult leaders, we can’t guarantee everyone will get their first preference – some areas will be over-subscribed!
  • Victorian Contingent will invite all our Venturers to our Orientation Day (or O-Day) with all the other leaders, this will be held at CRC Sydenham, Sunday 27th October 2024. Some of you will be starting exams the next day so we understand if you can’t get there but we will make sure we share the O-Day information with you.  Look out for your invitation by email a few weeks before O-Day.
  • We expect we will be able to tell everyone at O-Day about their Jamboree role.

How will Venturer Scout Service Leaders get to AJ2025 and back home?

  • Venturer Scout Service Leaders will be assigned a seat on the bus, wherever possible with the Scouts and leaders from their home Group.
  • Like the Scouts, everyone will be given a Boarding Pass and the Jamboree Scout leader will be in charge of everyone on the bus for the journey to Maryborough, you will return home on the same bus.
  • If you have arranged independent travel, the same arrangements as applied to Scouts will also apply to Venturers.  Victorian Contingent will be contacting all Independent Travellers to confirm their arrangements.
  • Victorian Contingent will arrange for crates for Venturers to ship their gear to Maryborough, these will be available at the Gear Pack-in Day when the Scout Units will be loading their camping gear. This will be either 6th or 7th December 2024 at a depot in Spotswood, we’ll tell you more about this at O-Day. Have a talk to your Scout Leaders, they may be wiling to take your gear on the day and pack it in the Venturer Service Leader crate for you. Don’t forget to pack a tent, stretcher and camp chair too. Label everything clearly so you can find it when the crates are unloaded at the Jamboree, in a pile, tents, stretchers & chairs can all look the same!
  • Your personal gear will be taken with you on the bus, if you didn’t opt-in for the Victorian Contingent roller bag, it’s not too late, send an email to viccon@scoutsvictoria.com.au and we can still supply the bag, daypack and drink bottle kit for only $85.
